Some decks reach a point where a fresh coat of paint just isn't going to cut it anymore. The old deck here had cracked, peeling boards, no railings, and stairs that had seen better days. It looked worn out - and more importantly, it had become a genuine safety concern every time someone used the back door.

We stripped things down and started fresh. New pressure-treated framing, new deck boards laid clean and tight, and a full railing system built around the perimeter. The stairs got a complete rebuild too - wider treads, solid stringers, and matching railings on both sides so there's always something to grab onto.

The railing detail was something we were intentional about. Black aluminum balusters set against fresh pressure-treated wood give this deck a sharp, finished look without overcomplicating it. It's the kind of combination that holds up well over time and doesn't need a lot of maintenance to keep looking good.

This is exactly the kind of work we do at Northern Lights Contracting. A deck that functions the way it should, built with materials that will last, and designed to actually look good while doing it. Safety and style aren't two separate goals - they're part of the same build.

If your deck is giving you that uneasy feeling every time you step on it, that's worth paying attention to. A rebuild like this one replaces the worry with something solid, and the difference from the first step is noticeable.
