Old carpet has a way of holding onto everything - dirt, odors, wear patterns that no amount of cleaning can fix. That was exactly what we were working with here. The carpet had run its course, and the subfloor underneath told the full story once we pulled it all up. Adhesive residue, scuffs, years of buildup. Not pretty, but totally workable.
We stripped everything out - carpet, padding, tack strips - and prepped the subfloor before a single plank went down. That prep work matters more than most people realize. If the surface underneath isn't clean and flat, it affects how the new floor sits, sounds, and holds up over time. We don't skip that step.
For the new floor, we went with luxury vinyl plank. It's one of the best choices for a home with kids and everyday foot traffic. It holds up against scratches and spills, it's easy to clean, and it looks sharp without being high-maintenance. The light wood-tone planks we installed here opened the space up noticeably and gave the whole area a much cleaner, more modern feel.
The installation ran through the main living area and hallway, keeping a consistent look from room to room. Clean cuts at the doorways, tight seams, and a finish that sits flat and even across the whole floor. That kind of consistency is what separates a flooring job that looks good in photos from one that still looks good five years down the road.
If you've got worn carpet you've been putting up with, LVP is worth a serious look. It's durable, it's practical, and it's one of those upgrades that changes how a room feels the moment it's done.
